Our commitment to ethical wildlife tourism.
We are dedicated to providing unforgettable wildlife experiences while upholding the highest standards of animal welfare. Our principles, in short: we support only travel partners that ensure animals live as happily and healthily as they would in the wild, and we oppose commercial exploitation except for ethical sanctuaries that rescue, rehabilitate and where appropriate release animals.
We minimise human contact with wildlife to maintain natural behaviour, with limited exceptions like controlled gorilla trekking. Our partners adhere to strict guidelines, and we assess their practices regularly to ensure compliance.

Luxury service, without the premium price.
Lodges and operators are required to sell at the same industry rate, whether you book direct or through a specialist. We are paid a commission by the lodges, never by you. The result is a specialist concierge included on top of the rate you would have paid anyway. The value we add is in the planning, the coordination, and the single-named contact who handles every link in the chain.

Financial protection.
Entrusting your funds to a third party can carry risk, a reality made especially clear by the disruption of recent years. At Safari.com your funds are held with us, and the optional travel insurance we offer adds a further layer of protection.
Many companies cite affiliations with industry associations as a guarantee of financial security. The reality is that those assurances often come with limited cover and can lead to lengthy disputes. Safari.com stands apart. Through the disruption of COVID we did not rely on customer or supplier funds to sustain operations; our shareholders supported the business so we could uphold our commitments without compromise.
For transparency: Safari.com was founded by Ric Meulemans and Oliver Bryant in 2006. In 2018 Caxton CTP, a JSE-listed publishing group, acquired a strategic shareholding. Today, Ric, Oliver and Caxton are the shareholders of the business. Caxton holds approximately R2.5 billion of cash on its balance sheet. When evaluating risk, the strength of the counterparty matters; the above should make clear we are well-funded and able to weather any scenario.

Travel insurance.
Safari.com has partnered with SATIB, our local insurance partner, to offer competitively priced travel insurance designed for international travellers. These packages reflect local market costing, which makes them significantly more affordable than equivalents bought in foreign markets. The Bronze tier covers up to $5,000 per person for trip cancellations and up to $2 million in medical cover, even for activities booked with other companies. Higher tiers and Cancel-For-Any-Reason are available on request. Until 25th May 2026, our complimentary BRONZE cover is included on every booking made and paid for in full.
